The Journals of Mihail Sebastian
The Good thief
PRESS CLIPPINGS
This just might be the most elaborate production ever given to a solo
show. Since the play is comprised of hundreds of short journal entries,
every entry is given its own pool of light and a sound cue. This
undoubtedly sounds like a terrible idea on paper, but the execution by
lighting designer Josh Bradford and sound designer Stefan Jacobs is
absolutely seamless.

Josh Bradford’s lighting is a perfect complement: functional,
yet also silently omniscient.

The performance exactly matches the understatement,
indirection and contained tenseness of Mr. McPherson’s prose,
qualities further echoed in Josh Bradford’s day-into-night lighting…

Josh Bradford's colorfully murky lighting design ...
for DiMurro's world adds immeasurably to the intrigue
and menace found in Waiting for My Man.

On the stage, though – especially Off Off Broadway, where space is
limited and effects are restricted by low budgets – you wouldn’t
ordinarily see this kind of eerie emptiness credibly exploited…lighting
that is both simple and evocative…the plays designers have all done
sharp, ingenious work.

Josh Bradford lights the stage as if it were the kind of objet d’art
Marguerite might have on her night table…

Camille, The Olney Theater, Maryland

Lighting by Josh Bradford is dreamy and darkly atmospheric up high,
cruelly bright up close, enhancing Pomerance’s dark tale.
- Lee Winston, The Open Circle
The Elephant Man, Theater at St. Clement’s

Josh Bradford’s lighting heightens the play’s inherent warmth.
- Howard Kissel, Daily News
The Voice of the Turtle, Mint Theater

Josh Bradford’s lighting design is extraordinary. It literally illuminates
key moments within the play and communicates the impact of the
words being spoken on stage.
